Nice old Schwinn for $99. Check the peak on that front fender.

Found this guy today, bid is at $50 with a few hours to go. From my quick search, looks to be a 1950-53. Full chain case and dynamo on the front wheel.

Triumph at Aldi's. It's not stock but it sure is useful. |

I think you're looking at a 70's Euro model of some sort. The decals, trim, lights, red nuts and SA trigger suggest something newer, maybe even 80's.

^^ Looks like reflectors on the pedals. If the bike is 60s or 50s the pedals have been replaced.

That price will shoot up in a few hrs.

Drake Three Speed
I got this from a friend about a month ago. It's a Drake (made in India) bike with Sturmey Archer three speed AW hub and Brooks saddle. The hub is dated 12 68.
Does anyone have any information about the Drake company? Was the bike made under license from Raleigh? or did Raleigh have a factory in India? or is Drake an Indian company that copied Raleigh bikes? Any information about the Drake bikes will be appreciated. Thanks. The same friend also sold to me an Indian-made roadster bike with rod brakes that he bought new approx. 15 years ago, and was never ridden. I'll post that one on a different forum since it doesn't have a three speed hub (I wish it did have one). https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...32850d2b4a.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3b4afa6dd9.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7e25e16bf1.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...256defa89c.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9bf7b82854.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5e17b34944.jpg |

I remember seeing a few of those around over the years, mostly as a kid. There was an old guy, a retired school teacher in my neighborhood then who had one that looked brand new back in the 70's. It had a huge package tray in the front and a rear rack with a wooden pet carrier that he had made for it so he could take his cat for a ride. He also had a dog that would ride in a milk crate he strapped to the front rack.

It's tough to say exactly where it was made. The frame could very well be Nottingham |

I'm pretty sure that they were made by Hercules for Indian in the US.

They were made by Phillips, of England. Some of the other advertising literature I've seen states this. They also made a girls version, Indian Princess.

Quaintness for cheap! Two for a sawbuck ($10) in southern CT. Check out the brake calipers on the path racer, while the other has a front Dynohub. Rim rot on both, evidently.

Definitely a Raleigh made frame with the only oddity being the crankset. Perhaps the makers of Drake frames needed to add 'Made in India' parts to qualify for tax purposes. Happens often. Should be a great rider.

Clubman, thanks for sharing your knowledge and opinion. I'm hoping to learn a little more about the company that made or assembled these bikes in India. Maybe a Bike Forums member from India will see this and provide the rest of the story.

IIRC, someone posted a linked video about an Indian Bike manufacturer Atlas, which is easily found on YouTube. They apparently stopped operations in 2020 due to cheap imports
Sorry, I should have repeated that the bike in question is a "Drake" bike (see post 25009). But maybe they were related to the Atlas company. I'll check out the youtube video to see if they mention Drake. Thanks for the information. |
I finally got a chance to clean up the mysterious (to me, at least) Alpha. I need help figuring out what it is, where it’s from, etc.

An example of the unusual, post-war Schwinn Superior 3-speed. This one is from 1949 or 50.

Looks like a newer fork on an otherwise oldie at a decent price.

Those Sears grips are not original. They were found on 70’s bikes sold by Sears. Models were usually the Free Spirit variation, Ted Williams, Green Brier, Free Spirit etc. Very nice 3 speed you have and good English quality! |
