San (Jose) to San (Francisco) to San (Jose)

Our club did our annual ride from the Almaden Valley in San Jose up to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco (~68 miles, 1700') on a gorgeous Saturday. Really couldn't have asked for better weather. Started a bit after 6am, stopped a few times for coffee, and pulled into Fisherman's Wharf about 1pm. San Francisco seems to have recovered somewhat, tourist-wise, (last year was a ghost town) but still relatively quiet. Valencia and Market streets were an absolute joy to ride down - empty pretty much the whole way.

I ate my PB&J with the group at Aquatic Park, then turned around and rode back home. Total for the day - 131 miles, 3200' though I could have cut a few miles off as I ended up doing street bagging for my Wandrer log :)

52+ km today most of it on the gravely Rail Trail, the 8 klicks on pavement were good to get a comparison on how my action cam set-up behaves.
Welllll more changes/improvements needed to be made. Choosing the frugal Chinese path has a few drawbacks but I'm getting there.
The small clip https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/577332951 shows the difference of "behaviour" on pavement and gravel. The cam had just enough play in the mounting cage to vibrate nicely on gravel. Got it fixed but it will be retested tomorrow.
Other than that and the strong headwind going South it was a very nice ride.

50 miles through the city. Very hazy, smoky skies. The smoke from the wildfires in Canada has really affected the sky over the past few days.

Planned to.go on a 30 mile ride but the back of my head hurt. I went to the hospital and they determined l had bleeding on my brain - so now I am in a much larger hospital with lots of tests going on. It does not appear to be a aneurism so far. Ride 1 extra mile for me.

25 mile ride today on the local trails. There were 4 decent climbs on the ride and one spot on a longish road where I can pick up the pace. Plus the ride has a gravel detour because of construction. I took the 1979 Trek 510 which I've been riding a lot lately. It was a good workout.

14 miles on Jupiter Island, my favorite time seems to be just before the sunset when temperature drops and gentle breeze kicks in and roads are strangely void of cars and people. Lost my keys when taking the pictures, had to backtrack and eventually found them in the middle of the road flattened by the passing cars. Lessons learned: don't put your keys half way into the pocket. :)

I need to replace my tires on my Trek Domane, the first set that came with the bike was good for about 2200 miles. I am looking for a moderate($35-$45)priced puncture resistant tire. All my riding is on roads or MUPs. Being I am in my late 60s dependability is more important than rolling resistance. I have looked at quite a few reviews on line, but getting some real world guidance would be appreciated Thank you

I want to be strong when I go to Canada but im afraid with only two or three weeks before I go I doubt it. Ill keep you informed on my progress///I enjoy reading you bikers training regimens so pease tell me what yer doing.Kenneth

It will be easier in Canada, we measure distances in Kilometres. That makes for bigger numbers.:thumb:

Nope didn't ride today, the smoke from the wildfires comes and goes. Today was too much of it!
Tomorrow will have more smoke, it may clear by Wednesday.

50km this morning along the river. Pleasant and I am looking forward to more of the same tomorrow morning.

First ride with any of my grandkids and this one was really special. One of my granddaughters is special needs but loves doing active things. We went on a pretty long ride on the beach with me carrying her in a back harness. She loved it. She was positioned high enough to where she could see over my shoulders so she could easily see what we were doing.

I also took her fairly far into the ocean (not on the bike) and we jumped waves. She laughed longer and harder than she ever had…..especially when the waves would break on us. The rougher the better!!!

You might look at Vittoria’s line of tires. They have some models that are good all around tires but priced really well. I’ve gotten some at bargain prices and they perform super.

Merlin has some 28’s at a great price right now

Continental Gator Skins are a very popular tire and offer a little more puncture resistance as well. You can usually find them within your price range, too.

I did 50k this morning. Looking forward to another 50k tomorrow. Or 51k for 05 fuji. I hope everything is working out.

05 fuji 07-29-21 03:19 PM

I appreciate it. 8 days of tests and today they told me they were releasing me saying it must be a one time thing that some people experience. 40 minutes later they said they want to repeat a test and are keeping me in.

26.62 - no energy to be had - almost as slow as reverse - miles. Maybe better tomorrow - or not???

ultrarider7 07-30-21 05:46 PM

55 miles today, 54 yesterday and 48 on Wednesday.

OldTryGuy 07-31-21 10:12 AM

33.33 miles today so a bit better than yesterday's 26.62 miles. Once the sun makes an appearance the enjoyment declines rapidly due to heat and humidity so I'm figuring on a 4AM start tomorrow.
