Just got back from the last weeknight XC race of the season...all together about 22 miles of riding, including some warm up laps. It was a very fast, "power" course. With the nature of the course and it being the last race, I wanted to go "all in" on this one. I drilled it out of the start, managed to hit 1350 watts on the sprint for the first turn...I didn't really let off the gas at all on the first lap and was able to go solo about 1/2 through the first lap. I kept the pressure on the rest of the race and was able to finish in first with a fairly respectable gap.

Now, hopefully I can fit in another ride this week of decent length and still recover well enough for 70 miles of gravel racing on Saturday.

Tuesday I rode my tour bike the season's first whole hundred miler going south with over 200 big trucks because it's a work day.
Nice day in the 60s with mostly blue sky between clouds on both sides and 9 mph west crosswind. I can't figure out why it slows me both directions.
Only got up some speed when the highway angled SE. A+W chicken burger lunch.
11 hours clock time, 8:28 moving. Too slow to get cramps I guess. LOL. Not bad I guess for 2nd ride, still in middle of May.
Last Friday was too hot, then Saturday I woke up to a damn choking napalm sky season already. Rode 21 miles.

Tuesday night: With my daughter, didn't ride.
Yesterday: Spent 5 hours driving taking my mom to an appointment. (she's got Alzheimer's) Missed the weekly club ride I usually lead. Time to repay all the time & effort she spent on me as a kid.
Tonight: With my daughter, likely won't ride, but will try to sneak one in after I get home, now that it's light out longer.
Tomorrow: Going to see Nate Bargatze (comedian) with my wife! Might commute if it will ever stop raining every time I have a chance to ride.
Saturday: Badgerland Miata club will be at Road America to watch vintage races and have a cookout. I think I'll pass on the long club ride and do that instead. Wife doesn't like Road America, so maybe I'll fold up my Ride1UP Portola, put it in a bit tote and see if it'll fit in the passenger seat of my Miata. (a 2000)
Sunday: Will likely ride with an alternate group. Older guys; some pretty fast, and the others on eBikes. Then meet with my wife for brunch.

77 miles. Tomorrow mother nature is forcing a rest day. I'll show her on Saturday that aint going to flatten these bulging tires!

Today I rode 25 miles. Not gonna make my 100 mile goal for the week. Weather has been bad.

Got in 21 miles today on gravel/road mix. Didn't realize wet gravel is much tougher, so went pretty slow.

Some insurance magnate used to own this joint, before he was arrested on fraud charges and eventually died.

Some more climbing in, 27 miles and 4200' of gain. I didn't want to do a huge day of climbing, so I only did 1 each of "3" and "HC" rated climbs. I did push it pretty hard on the bottom 1/2 of the big climb and managed to set my peak 30 minute power for the season(321 watts.) Also managed to better my time on that particular climb by over 6 minutes(originally set 3 years ago.)

Absolutely, I took the last 5 days off, my legs were really feeling the need for a rest. Did an easy 24 tonight with 1450 ft of climbing, I could tell, I took the last 5 days off. Will try and do a short flat route indoors tomorrow just to spin the legs after work, the heat is building up bad this week, and plan for 80 miles of gravel Saturday morning.

Actually not that high, about 6300'...it's just that this was a pretty good snow year and that's on the north aspect of that ridge. One of the local passes(8700') just opened for the season, last week. There's likely to be snow in some spots all year, one of my favorite local MTB trails (9k+') probably won't be completely ridable til August.

I managed to get in a 22-miler last night, it felt good. Like someone else said earlier, the wind seemed to self-adjust to be in my face most of the time. I started the ride going west, then south. At that time, it was a southwest wind. Then it was a southeast wind when I finished.

Rest day; I took the eMoped to work. Will go home for lunch and don't want to get sweaty for the afternoon.

Sooo tempting to drop everything and spend a whole summer there, if not for two things. Wife wouldn't understand and fact that I wouldn't survive any of these climbs...

Lol, you just gotta have the right gearing...but in all seriousness, even the 34/34 combo on my road bike requires a lot of wattage on this climb. I've got a 31/40 low gear on my gravel bike and that makes virtually all the climbs very manageable. The good news is, that not all the climbing is this extreme. I'd say the majority of the climbs are well under 8% grades, usually more like 6%.

I've lived here all of my life and I still never get tired of the mountains(other than snow sometimes.) It's hard to put words to the feeling, but I guess being in the mountains just puts me into my "happy" place.

Sierra_rider 05-17-24 12:59 PM

Easy ride for this morning, 21 miles and 2200' of elevation gain. Only noteworthy accomplishment, is that I managed to set one of my lowest power numbers ever(out of 100 recorded runs) on an 800' climb. It was entirely deliberate and I should be feeling good for tomorrow.

georges1 05-18-24 04:19 AM

used the trek 6700 slr mtb for a ride on averagely paved road of 20km

Surprisingly easy 30 miles this morning on newly finished Orbea Terra.

102.5 miles. Other than some excessive flying protein being annoying, everything else was... excellent [Mr. Burns voice] .

jaxgtr 05-18-24 02:18 PM

Well unlike some people that had an "excellent" ride, mine was less than fun. My legs were having none of it today, too much work and not enough bike this week. The humidity was horrible, wind was strong, and I completely did not have enough air in my tires as it felt like I was riding in mud. I normally ride this joint at around 38 psi, when I got home, I checked the pressure and it was 30, I completely misread something this morning when I checked the pressure. I also forgot my mini pump at the house, so it just added to the misery. So I just did a single loop of 22 miles. Then I came home and mowed the yard before the rain moved in, then went inside and did an easy 26 miles on Rouvy, now I am eating some homemade curry vegi's.

Some pics of the trail I was on today.

I feel like I know who you're referring to... rsbob. it is rsbob isn't it? :D

Ive boogered the psi like that many times. It can make for an interesting ride. I cant imagine going two miles let alone 22 miles on it. Eek!
