54 miles with 4500 feet of climbing. Pretty hilly. Still recovering from two surgeries and 40 lbs overweight, so, it took me 4 hours. A few years ago, this was a routine 3 hour training ride. Unlike wine, old men always get worse.

Personally I got a lot faster once I got older, 60 vs 30, only because my 4 kids all grew up and moved out and my work schedule got a lot better (more time off) so I’m riding a lot more now (5 days a week, 40-60+ miles a day) than I ever had time for when the kids were in the house! I also moved from New Hampshire down to FL so I can ride outside year round, oh and I dropped 20lbs due to cancer/radiation 6 years ago and have kept it off by riding a lot.

If I had ridden as much as I do now when I was in my 20’s of course I’d have been a lot faster then too, but once the kids came along, not much time to ride more than an hour or so, either outside or on the rollers inside in the winter months in NH.

I like the rolling roads from Sebring up into the orange groves. Looks like a nice place to retire and ride bikes.

17 mi, 1300' of elevation gain. Getting back in to riding. Most of my days are for running, so only Sunday for the bike.

rsbob 04-24-22 09:08 PM

10 more miles and 1200 more feet than yesterday’s ride. That’s a lot of feet, at least their nails don’t need to be clipped. :foo:

3/4s through my ride I notice that my Velotoze shoe covers stopped squeaking against my rubber retaining strap for the Garmin cadence pickup. When I looked more closely, the strap rubbed through the shoe cover and was wearing away at the toe cover I was too lazy to remove before putting on the Velotoze cover. Moving the sensor up about two inches on the crank arm took care of the issue. Dumb.

Riders come from both coasts of FL to ride the back country roads in Highlands county, mostly in the winter. Lots of good roads without much traffic. Most of our riders are retired, I will be too in 2 years, then I’ll be able to ride more.

A350driver 04-25-22 09:28 AM

48 miles on the road this morning, 64-80 degrees, east wind.

Oh, and here I complain when our weather goes backward into the upper 40's. You are a trooper for sure.

I was suckered in from the 1st segment of spring season's weather. On the way back, I did question the level of sanity....

Def nice scenery!

Hey Kahn, was that first picture at the Sand Point Sailing Club?

Looks like a fleet of club 420s.

This is a good and long running thread. Let’s not close it because of some lately inappropriate and political content posts. I deleted a few recent posts and cleaned up another.

If you are familiar with Seattle, it was taken at Sunset Park in Ballard (I generically call all of Seattle west of Phinney Ride and north of the Ship Canal Ballard). The park looks out over Elliot Bay or Puget Sound also depending on your definition of either of those features.

Here's the real vantage point overlooking Shilshold Marina.

We definitely have more topographical relief than Florida!

My usual 16 mile loop with 700 feet but planned to fit between squalls. It was dark and growing quickly...
