Ah, so, appliance repair done.

This was the second time addressing this issue - massive leaking from the undercarriage of the washing machine. The same problem as the last time, too - the accordioned rubber hose from the tub to the pump had been abraded away. Thinking that the suspension of the washing tub might be failing, and causing the outside of the tub to sag and rub on the hose, I decided to take a closer look, shoving a camera underneath while the machine was standing upright... no dice, though - there's no tight spots and potential contact points near the abraded areas that look like they could be problematic.

....and then I noticed that the hose had also been abraded away towards the sides of the hose and at the pump junction, where absolutely nothing could come in contact with it. Now I'm thinking that it might be some of Vol's desperate brethren, climbing inside and chewing away at it, for some dumb reason. Freakin' vermin. :notamused:

That's not a bad fever for a small child.

You'll never know where that type of illness comes from. You or your wife could have picked it up at the store, the gas station, any place really. Just because you didn't get sick from it doesn't mean someone else won't.

Although Covid has brought on a whole new set of concerns, normally it's good for kids to be around others and get sick from time to time.

Eesh. They've shared plenty with us, but nothing that severe. We did have to take the boy in to urgent care when he was a toddler, though. I was pretty worked up when they decided to transfer him to another facility and still remember the relief washing over me when he finally perked up after IV fluids.

Another time, our daughter got really sick when she was still a baby. I was holding her on the couch when she started to throw up on my chest. Got up and went to the kitchen so we would be on a tile floor. She ended up puking so much that my clothes were drenched to my underwear. Wife came running, and we stripped me and the kid in the kitchen. Then went to a shower to clean us both of, while the wife cleaned up the mess. No fun in that one, but never gave anything different a thought.

Nothing scarier than thinking your kid might be dangerously ill. Fortunately, they're pretty bulletproof.

Our toddler once spiked at daycare and had some rigors. The center boss thought she was having a seizure and called an ambulance, whose crew wanted to take her to a distant hospital (I had ridden to work on my bike and the hospitalwhich wouldn't have accepted our insurance anyway because we were in the military system). I pled with them and they agreed to take her to the old National Naval Medical Center which was right across the street from work. I rushed over and met her at the ER door and the ambulance crew tore up the trip sheet so we wouldn't get billed for that ********.

She obviously just had a stupid virus, but the ER insisted on cathing her for a urine sample. The house officer who tried it was so incompetent and it was so traumatic that my wife, who had arrived in the meantime, made him stop. I couldn't watch. They gave her a mouthful of ibuprofen syrup and she was fine in an hour.

I love performance stuff of all types but the diesel community is just obnoxious. Well, Not all of it, but these pipes and coal idiots aren't doing themselves any favors.

What we found was that with The Older Boy, every illness was something new to us, so we were constantly asking "What the hell is THIS?!?"

When The Younger Boy got the same things, a couple years later, it was more like, "Oh, this! I know what this is!"

Luckily, AFAIK The Younger Boy never had RSV, or if he did, not as severely as The Older Boy, who ended up hospitalized with it, and then had twitchy lungs for years after.

My sister lived in coastal Carolina. Then she moved outside of Dayton, so she's been at the epicenter of the NC/OH license plate war. I say where the flight actually occurred is what counts.

Used to.* Since we closed our borders to all but a few of our citizens, passenger flights between the US and NZ have all but stopped. I guess the USPS can't afford or doesn't want to hire or buy it's own planes.


*I believe USPS was just responsible for getting mail on the plane to the main inwards NZ distribution centre and NZ Post was actually responsible for delivery within NZ, with reciprocal arrangements for mail going to the US. There was probably money changing hands as well to cover each postal service performing the obligation of the other to deliver the mail.

We've seen Leviathan, Deep Star 6, AND the Abyss this year.

I think it might have been fine, like a number of structures out here that survived decades of heavy use, but not the 1989 Loma Prieta Quake, because it stressed them in ways they weren't designed for. Here, it seems once one end of the first section dropped, it put a different force on the pillar than it was designed for, pushing it over and the rest is dominoes.
