Don't you hate it when the DMV suspends your license due to a clerical error?

You know they're big slabs o' beef when *I'm* thinking about how I'd kill 'em on the hills. :roflmao:

Speaking of gravel, a friend did the Belgian Waffle Ride, the 76 mile version. He finished strong and had a great time. 612 riders on the shortened ride. Lots of sand, he mentioned the sand, but lots of pavement, too.

No real reason to change other than having a matching groupset, but I think it would be worth it. The 11 speed Shimano just shifts so well I can't imagine wanting anything more. I have had the opportunity to play around with some 12s Ultegra though...the front shifting feels almost telepathic. So fast.

Oh, I also recently went from 48/34 x 11/32 to 52/36 x 11/32. It is a bit harder when things get steep and muscle memory is still adapting to shifting two cogs in the back per chainring change vs one, but the overall drivetrain feels smoother.

I was washing the Litespeed so the parts I take off won't be greasy, and once again I was struck by how nice the 7410 looks on it. I mean, just look at it! But without more, and lower gears, it will be limited to standard rides.

Couple of those guys look like they'd make good track racers.

Whew. Not sure that elbow thing I was talking about earlier would work on some of those kids. Lordy.

genejockey 05-02-22 08:24 PM

Okay, so what the R8000 will REALLY do will be to give me 3 more gears like I said, but 1 higher and 2 lower than I have now. The high gear will be the highest among all the bikes, and the low gear will be the second lowest.

My friend raced as a cat 3 @265 and higher. He played offensive line in college. I was following him on a club ride and the guy next to him got out of control because of the bad road and he rode into the big guy who just flicked his elbow and the smaller rider went down. Luckily he was not hurt.

Remember how I was saying that everybody in the house was sick, but that my son had something different and was puking? Well, fresh off of recovering from whatever the rest of us had, my wife decided to take that bug for a spin, too, and has been busy Ralphing tonight. Uff da.

That was us at the last month. It was terrible. Thankfully I never got the stomach bug, I just felt terrible for a week.

Hey, I need to order some tires for the road bike in the next few weeks. What should I get if I can’t find GP5Ks at a good price?

Not a scary ride.

More bear news: we got a text from our host that there was a bear in front of the house last night, and to be careful.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

This trip sounds like it could turn into a semi regular thing with lots of biking and other stuff to keep Mrs. D happy.

I'm hoping that I don't get it, either - the weather looks like it's finally ready to turn and I really need to get in some riding.

I'll likely go with these as my next training tire. Though Excel has the two packs of 5000's for an OK price, as well.

I've only used the tubeless versions but, assuming the same relative performance, I'd be looking at Schwalbe Pro Ones and Michelin Power Roads, with a slight preference to the Schwalbe (a little more supple). The new Pirelli P-Zero have also been good, a little less supple but really grippy, but I only have 1k on them and can't speak to robustness or durability.
