What’s Wrong with This Picture?

Besides the obvious issue of riding a damp clay singletrack on 32mm slicks, what else is wrong with this bike?
Let’s see; flat pedals, downtube friction shifters, and who the heck still uses a SoftRide stem?
Less obvious are the 6-speed freewheel, 27” rims, and “gasp” aluminum frame!

Who else has a favorite bike that’s totally ‘wrong’ by the BF rules?:D

And the crank arms aren't even horizontal for your photo; forshame!

pdlamb 07-08-20 09:49 AM

Biggest thing wrong with that picture is that the owner is sitting off the path, posting to bikeforums, instead of riding that bike down that trail.

phughes 07-08-20 10:00 AM

Air pressure too high. Those aren't drop bars. Brake pads not toed in properly. That isn't a Brooks B17.

tkamd73 07-08-20 10:05 AM

The chain ring bolts are rusty.

FlMTNdude 07-08-20 10:43 AM

Valve stems not at 6 o'clock. Lettering on tyres not in position with valve stems. Really doesn't matter much to me, though. Questions is, how does it ride?

AlmostTrick 07-08-20 10:49 AM

The bike is fine but the rider is not a cyclist. :P

Reynolds 07-08-20 11:00 AM

Nothing wrong with that bike IMO. And what are those BF rules?

Cranks ARE ALMOST in the correct position, a few more degrees clockwise, but not forged one piece right side.

Riveting 07-08-20 11:28 AM

Saddle color doesn't match bar grip/tape. Brake color doesn't match drivetrain. But points for pedals matching water bottle, and brakes matching stem. So that's a wash.

DeadGrandpa 07-08-20 11:39 AM

The bike is too old to be in general discussion. Obviously, it belongs in C&V. And where is the frame pump, please?

Also, is that a Sun Tour derailleur and matching shifters? Nice!!!!

All of my bikes are favorites and every single one of them is 'wrong'. :thumb:

Not to worry; my Strava was running. I only stopped long enough to take a picture and kept going.

I have my bike with me on vacation, so I went for a ride on an MUP, that, after a couple water crossings, turned into a blaze- marked single track. After a half mile or so, I realized I very much was on the wrong bike. Fun to get out of the comfort zone, though

indyfabz 07-08-20 12:18 PM

It’s not crabon fibre.

Darth Lefty 07-08-20 12:19 PM

Worst thing about it is trying too hard for iconoclasm

Yes, it is: a Suntour V-GT. Shimano levers, though. And a mini pump behind the water bottle mount. I’m a heretic that way.

"horizontal"? Crank arms are supposed to be vertical.

Huh? The picture shows that they are actually perfectly aligned.

Might still be carbon fiber though... It is well known that crabon fibre explodes if exposed to sunlight.

Barry2 07-08-20 12:51 PM

Wide flange... really
FD is too far above the large chainring.
Dustcap missing from crank bolt.

I suspected that, once I saw the "Bridgestone" decal on the down tube. Nice bike, for sure.

You just can’t see them. Actually they are drop bars, but drop bars are an illusion for most.

Trying hard? Lighten up, Francis. About 90% of that bike below the headset is OE.

OldTryGuy 07-09-20 04:07 AM

I would enjoy riding the bike. :thumb:

I have converted my 1983 Waterford Paramount Road bike similarly but have Thumb Shifters.

Back in the 1970's Crankarms aligned with seat tube.

Front tire label not centered with valve stem and as mentioned valves should be at 6 o'clock.

:foo: Carbon Fiber assplodes. :D

ups 07-09-20 06:10 AM

Not a 1x with a 5-73 cogset......🤪

JanMM 07-09-20 07:56 AM

Did a cow die for that saddle?
On the plus side, the pedals and bottle are close to being color-coordinated.

All of my bikes run different tires with different pressure ratings which I can never remember so I always mount the tire with the stem next to the psi rating. But as I said above, all of my bikes are "wrong."

The only thing wrong with that bike is it needs North Roads or albatross bars, flipped path racer style. Although it would need a longer stem. Other than that, that bike is the right kinda wrong.

canklecat 07-10-20 01:02 AM

Also, fork isn't bent. Get to work on that.

livedarklions 07-10-20 04:28 AM

It's been turned into the subject of a troll thread?

Glad you like your bike, I don't get why saying I'd prefer to ride something else is declaring that bike "wrong."

Feel free to tell me to lighten up, but you're the one who chose to frame this as an argument for some reason.
