Call Me Goldilocks

It's precisely my size, but a couple few thousand miles away...

Rage 11-26-20 02:41 PM

That’s gonna be a heckuva nice score for someone local.

since6 11-26-20 03:57 PM

Actually not that far away.

It's in Phoenix AZ and there are a zillion LBS in Phoenix AZ all of which I'm sure would be more than glad to pick up, box and ship the bike to you.

I have done this in the past on a bike from Florida and it went really well. You just let the vendor Goodwill know who will be picking up the bike and send the winning bid paperwork to the LBS and you get your bike. Cost will be the same as would be for any other purchase shipment of out of state bike, but with a LBS they will realize as did the Florida shop that they were shipping a grail bike and do a super nice job of packing. So call and get set up with a LBS and throw your hat in the ring!

But if you win, please let us all know. :thumb:

What I really wonder about is how this bike ended up a donation at Goodwill in this condition???

But then that's true with many of my vintage bikes, if only they could tell their story.

P.S. And remember a couple hundred dollars on cost of shipping compared to a bike selling in a range from $2,000-$3,000 on Ebay, shipping is a steal.

Adding aero bars seems to be a career-ending move for many.

Six days to go. It's small for me, too big for my buddy in Phoenix. I need another bike like a hole in the head. Nope nope nope.

SoccerBallXan 11-26-20 05:18 PM

Why? Why did you show me this?

My S.O. is going to hate me. This is a few miles down the road...

There, I've exhausted my supply of rabbits, sometimes things just align, tho this not in the same league.

Time for Thanksgiving dinner and best wishes to all.

Take Care.

I haven't bought anything from Shop Goodwill in a couple years, but my experience was that there will frequently be few/no bids up until the last day, then the sniping begins. You put in your maximum price and they automatically raise the bid by $1 over the next lower bid, until you reach your max. You can go back before the auction ends and raise your max bid if you want. Sometimes you lose out by $1 and think "I should have bid a little higher". Except you don't know what the other person's max bid was, so it could have been $100 higher than you. Sometimes you are lucky and get the item for the unbelievably low price if there isn't much interest and the bids are all low.

So true Pompiere the snipers are everywhere and especially with something like this bike which is a huge turn around resale item, though limited by size of the frame.

A bike like this I figure my max price and then add another $50-100 and bid in the last seconds. Then if I get sniped, sure it stings, but that last extra money on top of max price soothes the soul, and if you win, you never even notice the premium you paid on the day you unbox it or the day of it's first ride.

I’m in Phoenix and could facilitate bringing this to an LBS for shipping for a winner here.

bikemike73 11-27-20 02:52 PM

Bid is up to $212.00 !!!!!!!

since6 11-27-20 08:37 PM

Yes I expect this auction is not going to be for the faint of heart, but as mentioned earlier if you check Masi Gran Criterium on ebay and then check what they have sold for, it's real $$$.

But here's something to watch for, sometimes it becomes a crazy bidding war and the winner... never pays.

Keep watching and a week or two later up comes the bike again on auction, so if you lose it's wise to check back. :)

Kilroy1988 11-27-20 09:00 PM

It may simply be because there are so many Buy-It-Now auctions on the US eBay site that I haven't noticed lately, but it seemed to me that "sniping" was on a serious decline. However, now that I've begun purchasing stuff on eBay UK where many auctions are allowed to run out their time (as in the good ol' days) I find that sniping is still alive and well! Interesting to see how it plays out on other websites... Good luck to the interested parties! This Masi is just my size and I'm only a couple hundred miles away, but I'm not a fan...

Never tried shopgoodwill.com. Will have to start looking there more along with eBay.

A Masi GC ending up at Goodwill can’t be a happy story. I hope it goes to a good new home.

dddd 11-28-20 07:02 PM

I've seen plenty of indications that bikes like this are increasingly being donated by widows of former cyclists.

Especially in well-to-do households where there can be continuous proper storage available for bikes not used in decades.

Yes, it's always sad when you find a work of art discarded, and in the case of this functional work of art what stories are buried in those areo bars, ancient cycle computer, was he/she a Tri athlete? Somehow a family has missed the stories, and so I too hope this ends up with someone who will ride it and feel those stories in the miles ahead adding new ones with every mile.

It's the miracle of our hobby, we can't own a Ferrari GTO, but we can own this.

Hope it's one of you.
