Head Torch for Night Time Riding

Living on a farm and often, especially in the winter, having to bike out at night to put some cow back into its field is a real pain or biking back from a field at about 5pm in the dark without a headtorch so that you can get of your bike and open a gate or something is very annoying. I am looking for a headtorch that is bright, and not too expensive. This means anything up to £25, is there anything decent in this price bracket?

I've got an older model Black Diamond Spot, and it's bright enough to ride by, the new model is supposed to be ~50% brighter. Pretty reasonably priced.

Thank you very much, looks like the perfect torch, now I just have to persuade my parents to let me buy it!!!

^^^ Thanks, I needed that. Now I know what people here think when I say pass me the torch please, instead of flashlight. That graphic will be imprinted in my brain for the rest of my life.

I just got a BD Storm in that price range. It has a wider beam than other headlamps I tested and has worked great on nighttime mtb rides.

I think I am set on the Black Diamond Spot, just need to check, does it accept lithium batteries?

Music Guy123 06-16-11 01:58 PM

Please, will the torch accept lithium batteries?

I mean flashlight!!!

Anyone got a more sane answer???

dminor 06-17-11 02:55 PM

Doesn't the BD Spot take 3 AAA batteries? Get a pack of rechargeable AAA lithiums (like the Ray-O-Vacs)/charger and you're good to go.

Music Guy123 06-17-11 03:04 PM

Ok, does that mean that if it states that it can take 3 AAA batteries, it is able to take lithiums? It doesn't have to specifically state that it can take lithiums - right??? thanks for your help!!!
