marin century on a singlespeed?

anyone out there ever attempted the marin century on a ss? i've done it geared before and it's a pretty hilly course. this yr im thinking of doing it single.

am i crazy?

washers against carbon cranks, OK or not?

are there any issues with spacing out a pedal using washers on a carbon crankset? will the washers damage the cranks? if so, is there any "safe" way to do this with carbon cranks?

i raced a steamroller for 2 yrs (not my primary bike). it was awesome. heavy, but awesome. besides the weight, the biggest drawback was the caliper brakes.

when the race is on ppl take chances, especially in corners, and it doesn't always work out....
