Thanks. I got it working pretty well. The indicator in the twist shifter is still not working but I think I know what the problem is and short of replacing the whole assembly, I'll live with it.

I've done a little more exploration on this...

I've done a little more exploration on this problem and disassembled (and reassembled) the shifter. Despite the indicator not moving, the shifter appears to be working correctly.
