sure, another common one recommended is acetone....

sure, another common one recommended is acetone. But denatured alcohol and rubbing alcohol are cheap and readily available.

OMS leaves a minor oil residue that some claim will inhibit wax retention, I haven't found any difference, but the recommendation is boiling water or denatured alcohol/rubbing alcohol as a last rinse...
