36 is pretty "short". If you don't need that low a gear you might have a bit easier shifting with the slightly tighter range of gears in †he Shimano. Probably a more salient feature than the brand.

I also have a B17. It's very comfortable, but for my daily rides, I prefer the C-17...

Mine is pretty stock. I swapped the downtube shifters for bar-ends, and added Raceface Ride pedals, fenders and 35mm Paselas.
