It's ok to get slower when you get older

Your max heart rate goes down, you gain weight, you develop health problems, your joints wear, you recover more slowly... it's ok. I'm not slow, I'm just enjoying the ride longer.

All I have ever used is a small tarp to serve as a ground cloth. With rain I can run a line and use a couple ground stakes to have shelter that works fine unless it is windy.
