It might be as simple as bolting the new RD hanger on and then remounting the RD itself. Most likely, you'll need to align the hanger. You may want your LBS to take care of this task.

The hub is probably not under warranty anymore anyway. I doubt you are going to have any sort of catastrophic failure due to it being used as a radially laced wheel, but it for sure was not intended...

That is an expander plug . usually there are smaller hex flats w/in the 5 or 6mm hex flat in the plug and that will expand the plug in the steerer. then use it as a star-nut.
