For comparison, here is another ad for a Trek 520 and claiming to be 54cm. Which one seems right?https://erie.craigslist.org/bik/d/north-east-heavy-duty-commuter-tourer/7169991697.html

Is this Trek 520 really a 54cm frame?

Going to look at this bike tomorrow, seller says it is a 54-55 cm Trek 520. It's a bit of a drive and I noticed the top and down tubes seem far apart on the head tube for a 54cm bike. But I don't...

You know I was thinking along those lines and had moved my seat back (though my rationale was that I wanted to try to simulate 'relaxed geometry'), and on another bike shifted the seat forward to...

Tell me more?

Maybe I should be thinking in terms of frame geometry rather than wheel size. Main thing is I need to be able to flat foot without tilting the bike over too far.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't like the Thule seats either, but I think you are right a dropper post is a good idea. Also, I'm thinking to run 26" wheels so that I'm lower to the ground (and easier...

Trek 720 on double black diamonds? With a kid on the front? Looking for a bike

Hi all,

I started riding again to spend time outdoors with my 3 year old. Bought a vintage Trek 720 for tooling around town and gravel trails. He rides on a shotgun seat between myself and the...

Trekking bar brand recommendations

Hi all,

I bought a hybrid bike (Trek 720) that is a touch bigger than I need. It works fine for my purposes (2-4 hour rides each day with a kid between me and the handlebars), but I find myself...

Is it possible to retrofit disc brakes to an old bike? I know this can be done on the front by...

Yeah I am thinking I might just look for another 700-ish 90's era Trek. Hoping I could snag a lugged 750 for nostalgia reasons, then rebuild the thing to suit whatever my current purpose would be.

Well maybe that is true in the city in Montreal but in the Chicago Suburbs most do do sidewalks as riding in the road is for folks with a death wish. A kid was killed riding in the road just last...

Most versitile modern hybrid?

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a 90's era Trek 720 to use as a recreational bike for taking my 3 year old out into the woods and around town. It's a little big (21", I'm 5'8"), and I've had to do...

Gritty turning hubs. Repack or replace?

Hi all,

I recently bought a used hybrid bike, in part with the idea that I'd learn by doing maintenance on it. I've some knowledge because I've built a hodge-podge bike from a frame in the past,...

I should add that I'd like the bike to be able to haul one of those kids trailers that makes it like a tandem, and also be able to haul a trailer for a kid (though probably not at the same time).
