Maybe they could/should have ridden further to the right. But none of use were there, so we don't know why they weren't. All group rides I've been on have made room for cars to pass when possible.

The person who just finished being at the front pulls off to the side, slows down until they get to the back, then joins the back of the line. So the pack maintains a constant speed, or effort.

You don't have to start out with the "A" group. Search out mellower group rides. Our club has A,B C and sometimes D rides.

There's no need to flick elbows in a normal paceline, especially in a non-race....
