Ah that's because the handlebars are up higher. More weight on your tush, less weight on your hands. I've also found that Ergonomic grips, like those made by Ergon, make a world of difference.

FYI I just did this. These are SKS P55 fenders. There is a slight bulge between the stays because I had to bend them a little bit. They'll fit, but you sorta have to tension them around the wheel....
