The actual rim isn't shot,. But the rest of the spokes will most likely break in the middle at some point.. and it's cheaper to just buy a new rim then have it re-laced.

i'm building a touring bike now, Trek SL1000.. plan on doing panniers in front with a trailer in tow.. (for my dog) and carry the heavy stuff like tent and cooking supplies in the trailer..
