Look to ebikesca (Grin) for a hub with a torque sensor; the only mid DIY that I know of with a torque sensor is the Tongshen, but I'm sure there are more.

If you used the same battery I use, 40 miles would be a no-brainer. You might even get 40 miles with a 13ah battery.
