Anything point-to-point, i.e. not upwind-downwind laps around buoys a mile or two apart. Around here they're generally in the 10-120 nautical mile range. Longer than that it's called "offshore."

I have completely reversed my position on erg mode for intervals after listening to a few coaches. It's all RPE now with an occasional glance at power. If it feels hard, it is hard.
