Also, you can take a ferry from Key West to Ft. Myers, which will save a ton of time. Just don’t plan to stay in Key West unless to want to spend $500 a night for a hotel or camp for $100 a night.

I’ve been using Topeak racks for years and never had an issue. Just the standard Explorer rack with Ortlieb panniers. Use a Topeak bag for commuting, but not touring. It is not waterproof.

I usually ride 75 miles a day on average on unpaved surfaces. A bit more is no problem if relatively flat or paved. A bit less if lots of climbing. Leaves plenty of time for stops along the way.
