The ones I saw had about a 1/4" slit in the tube. Right at the inside shoulder of the bead seat. I can ask if there are other symptoms.

Update. The Trek store gave my friend a loaner bike, and, they said the needed to talk to Bosch.
End result~ the shop ended up shiming the magnet closer to the sensor. Just like I would have done....
