Unfortunately defects are sometimes a result of the manufacturing process. Impossible to get to 0 defects, so it comes down to how they are handled. Glad they gave you a new one, been super happy...

Not a bad idea. The jump from 70 gi to 74 gi was a little rough. I have 45x16 gearing now, and a 17 sitting on the shelf. Just need to figure out if there is enough room in the dropout for that...
