Various questions on mounting shifters/FD on my vintage MTB.

Hello fellow cyclists,

I bought a vintage MTB ('90s, rigid, aluminium frame, cantilever brakes, 3x7v, 42-34-24 front, 13-28 rear) and I'm replacing the shifters and also the front derailleur and...

If the silicone structure acts like a suspension, that cheap holder is probably much better for the phone too, compared to a rigid one! Vibrations are not good for electronics.

Thank you Barry for your help, indeed from what I reckon online, EZ Fire shifters have no trim function for the front derailleur. I wonder whether this means accepting some chain dragging in some...

Do EZ Fire allow fine adjustment for the front derailleur?

Hello,

do "EZ Fire" levers allow fine adjustment for front derailleur?

I have revoshift levers on my old MTB (grip shifters), and the front one has "clicks" for fine adjustment of the front...

I re-read it and I don't think I was ironic at all (might have been in subsequent posts, in reaction to some replies). Maybe I worded it the wrong way. I concede the title was certainly exaggerated....

Yes, that's the gist of it after all. (I'm not ironic this time, thank you for your contributions anyway). I think habit is a lot important, I'm getting more used to the rigid bike day after day. You...

Maybe. At least I didn't spend 250$ on a suspension seatpost, but only 19.90$ on a sprung saddle. :thumb:

Uhm... No.

If someone thinks that a 129$ full sus MTB with a spring saddle should be less compliant than a top of the line road bike, yes that's silly.

Very very rare by me too.

I'm pretty sure a sprung saddle makes things a bit more comfortable when encountering an UNSEEN pothole.

I'm aware the riding style is very important for the rider's comfort, infact there are many interesting and constructive posts in this thread about that.

Let's put it another way then: I'm much...

Easy, I'm much more comfortable than he is, but I'm much less comfortable than what I wanted/used to be. :D

What's funny about that? I'm riding much more comfortable than you are, and the sprung saddle certainly does not make me a lesser cyclist than you. ;)

No, I'm not riding long miles at the moment (I rode 30 miles a few times). What do you mean with "working great"? Efficiency, reliability, comfort?

Thank you for your constructive post! :)

Yeah I'm aware that more power mean less weight on saddle and hence less need for suspension.

Regarding efficiency, well that's an interesting subject....

Do you think the most expensive road bike on 25mm tires is even remotely compliant as a full sus with a sprung saddle and wide tires?

Yes / no.

Can't ride rigid bikes anymore.

For the last dozen years or so, I've almost exclusively ridden a cheapo (129 EUR / USD) full suspended MTB, on which I mounted a plushy sprung saddle and slick 42mm tires.

In anticipation of...

Thank you all for the helpful advices! After further thought, I think I'll give up on the bike, probably too much rust on the frame anyway and too much work to restore it. Thank you all anyway!

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to disassemble an old MTB, but the bolt (Allen) securing the stem is probably stuck and (after trying to unscrew it) the bolt is stripped.

What is the cheapest method I...
