I have no experience with any of the bikes you mentioned, but keep in mind, very few stock saddles are going to be comfortable and worth keeping. Plan on replacing it on any bike you buy.

It's not an advisable gear combo, but no, it shouldn't drag. You can run through chains and cassettes pretty fast that way, especially under load.

Maybe they didn't size up your chain properly....
