i collect bikes. fly rods, stereos, music, books and custom knives. i do know folks that buy a custom knife- we're talking 5k or more- and store it it vaseline. no rust.

no joy either, imo.

i have both. i say honjos. the wood looks fine, but rattles some. also, the wood fenders have a flat profile, they don't follow the curve of the tire, hence, they don't keep water off you as well....

i have several of these bikes. if the hub hasn't been taken care of for a long while, i drain out the oil and put wd-40 in it for a while. that usually breaks down the old dried out oil and gunk....
