I will give the socket a try. Good idea, I might be able to tell if the seat tube is "wider" further down the tube. I tried using the calipers set at 26.0 and it appeared to be pretty round.

thank you, I must have a tweaked seat post lug. 26.2 will not fit with out excessive force. When I do put it in 2cm there is gauling in the forward position and where the binder bolt slot is.
