I like it a lot! I have about 10,000 miles on mine. It's my daily commuter, and I also just did RAGBRAI on it.

It has some downsides:

It's rather heavy.
I have some toe overlap on this bike...

It is. A while back I got a Specialized AWOL on clearance with the pizza rack, and it included a Supernova dynamo headlight mounted there.

Looks like OP found a cool solution though!

It sort of depends on where you are. In central Florida, where I grew up, a bicycle left out in the elements 24/7 would get wrecked very quickly by sun and rain. (Salty ocean air was also an issue.)...

I think a tarp would help much more than it would hurt if either precipitation or morning dew are concerns. Also, don't underestimate how much damage the sun can do over long enough periods of time....
