I have a Trek Marlin 6 29r with Tektro hyd. disc brakes. These brakes have never been noisy and they work great. I pulled the pads this year and no sign of wear and I'm thinking I got it new in 1995....

I'm a sucker for old cotton flannel sheets at yard sales and estate sales.. A buck or so is acceptable . I cut them up for rags and pitch them when I am done with them.
