1998 as far as I can tell. So strange to see a quill stem on a decent bike so late in MTB history. Rigid fork is kinda strange for that era too.

I don't think they went for $1k, but it was pretty expensive for a bike in 1984.

Oh yeah, I figured as much. I count DIY as a subset of aftermarket. :)

With those dropouts, you should be able to run without a tensioner, might have to adjust brake spacers a bit also, however.

Some front derailleurs had built-in cable stops, so it might have had one of those at some point (with a full housing run from shifter to FD), and somehow it didn't mar the paint at all.

I think they only used that decal style in 1998-2000. Very lowend model, retailing for less than $300 USD.

I'd usually rather have an olde rigid $300 bike than an olde sproingy $500 bike, though!

Well I'll be. I've seen straight blade forks angled from the steerer like that but never seen a curved blade fork at an angle. Guess they wanted a subtle bend and needed more rake after said bend.
