Band/clamp mount shifters were still offered the with the 7 speed version but disappeared with the introduction of 8 speed. It was intended primarily as an upgrade option for older frames. Remember , SIS was only entering it's 4th year when 600 Ultegra was introduced, so there was still a relatively large retro-fit market
