Yeah, I agree he's far from a doofus. Sounds like he's always had a little "let's just see where the road takes me" attitude, so I salute him in his endeavors. This is certainly a "let's see if I can turn this into a job" thing, but more power to him if he hated his job and wants to just be happy. Not a surprise he replaced the seat, pedals and tires though. I have no experience with the Citibike program, but here in the twin cities we have Nice Ride, which has comparably heavy but functional bikes.
