I discovered a book at my local library called
World Heritage Sites, 8th Edition. It is a 956 page behemoth that lists every World Heritage Site up to 2017. All 1073 of them! Most get a separate page, but some are listed 2 to a page.
The vast majority of them are historic sites. Others are natural or "mixed" sites. The book starts with maps of various world areas with dots on them showing the location of the sites.
The book is published by Firefly boks and the ISBN number is 978-0-228-10135-2.
I can truthfully say that I've never visited a World Heritage Site that wasn't worth the time and effort to get there.
