That is classic idiocy. You see it all the time. It is even in the Bible. A prophet says repent or die. Everybody repents. Nobody dies. Therefore he was a false prophet. If I'm not mistaken, that was part of Jonah's problem.

But seriously, my take is that only NYC was scaring folks enough for them to take precautions. As soon as NYC settled down, the attitude became much like for auto accidents. Meh! Fact of life. Well, not really.
