So, in genuine curiosity, what makes 12 better than 10 or 14?
It just feels right. I really prefer a six speed rear to a seven, for no real reason. And frankly, I don't have much experience with five. I have a five speed corncob here, that I've been awaiting the right application for. Whatever I have back there, I never use them all, unless I'm in the US, where they have actual hills. What makes friction shifting preferable to indexed? Same question/same answer.
Edit: Actually, the six speed rear more easily fits into 126 mm dropout spacing as well.
