So it's not a stretch for a person to imagine one or the other could technically work.
Got to love language. So many exceptions to the rules. And given we're in the age of Spell Check and Non-Editing, who knows where it'll all end up. It is supposable that, can be supposed that, it'll end up nowhere good.
