I've never been so happy to get a flat in my life.
About 3 miles from home, felt the all-too-familiar thumb, thump, thump. So I pulled over and right after I got the rear wheel off -- saw a large staple, as in those used in cartons, sticking through the tread. Yippee! No rim tape problems! A few minutes to swap it out, and I felt so confident that I continued on the ride despite that being my last spare tube.

I'm still interested in knowing this, if anyone has experience.
