I've done that often. Once a store employee said I couldn't bring a bike inside. I asked why, the person said I'd be dragging dirt in from outside. When I pointed out that the shopping cart storage was outside, they stared at me for a few seconds, a circuit blew in their brain, and then they walked away.
I finished my shopping with no issues.
