No worries, apparently I got it wrong. I just did a little digging, and Alex actually took part in the
Granfondo Milan - Sanremo, on September 12, 2021, not the Gran Corsa event. Sorry, my bad.
It was, as it turns out, part of a project called "Moorslede - Milan", an effort to re-enact what Cyriel Van Hauwaert did in 1908: ride from Paris to Milan and then ride the race. Which Van Hauwaert won.
