it doesn’t sound like it’s skipping, i’ll shift and it takes one or two pedal strokes before it shifts. It never did this before, doesn’t do it every time, maybe 7 out of 10. Anything I can do? I would say it’s between 8-7-6 cogs.

Maybe your chain is counterfeit?
Not kidding: I once had a similar problem and my stupid mechanic (me) had put the chain on backwards. Most chains are unidirectional so be sure that it's on right.
