I am so glad my commuting to work days are over, back when I clocked 800 miles/week and my car was constantly in that "what's next" state of existence for 21 years. If not for my uncle Pete the mechanic, who always gave me the family discounted price for car work, I could have never made it through all the commuting repairs . . . brake pads, rotors, alternators, water pumps, radiators, two engine replacements. A regular mechanic would have cost a fortune. Ol' Pete was truly heaven sent.
When my ex and I were putting 60K between our cars I was doing all the work they needed and it's still expensive. Besides gasoline you have to buy more tires, oil, filters, and other maintenance items. I don't know how people do it.
