What I would do is get a 10 speed microshift shifter and run it in friction mode. It's my favorite method and has for me eliminated all fussiness of perfect cable tension and perfectly lubricated and micro adjusted components. Once you learn how to properly shift all you need is to have the inside and outside limits of the derailleur set. With the 10 speed friction I can change to a different wheel cassette set up very simply.
