There are times when I make noise during actual nightmares,(and she wakes me) but the heavy breathing was something different.
My wife notices me breathing very heavily, especially when I've been tired. It's normal. I have occasional episodes of sleep apnea, which sometimes wake me from a dream of being short of breath or even drowning.
