njkayaker . From my reading, you seem to know these units really well.
I know the Edge units well. The other units work similarly.

Note that I'm not saying it's the best option but there's no reason it can't work reasonably well.
It's just a low-risk option if you are "GPS curious". (But you have to include the issue of mounting it in your equation.)
