I went through similar machinations trying to identify the Falcon I bought a few years back. With the help of the VCC marque enthusiast (he can be found on cyclechat under the username mandobob) the closest possibility we got to is a San Remo Mk II, possibly late 60's - early 70's. The rounded seat stay treatment at the cluster and the larger seat tube diameter are clues. Mine very closely resembles this:
