I picked up a Garmin HRM-Dual for about $30 on ebay, looks like you can get one for closer to $40 now. If I wear it for more than a few hours of running in a week I get some chafing where the strap connects, but other than that fairly minor quibble it appears to be both bulletproof and idiot-proof.
