Don't worry, I know the straps aren't tucked into the buckles, they are just taking a shape for when they are ridable. And no, I'm not twisting them. I don't like the way it looks and it really doesn't serve a purpose.
Agree on the unsightliness of the twist, but it very much does serve a purpose, it keeps the strap and buckle correctly positioned in the pedal so they can be tightened down on the fly with the slack in the right place.
