Was the saddle carriage not chrome, a facsimile or just too corroded?
Black is one of my current pet peeves, most all used to be chrome, now most are black, no bueno for me.
The top and all look great from here, I would encourage you to use oldschool paste wax like Kiwi as well, maybe alternate and remember black shorts likely from here on out.
