One observation: reading letters to the editor in a full range of cycling publications over the past 40+ years, the confidence and certainty of many people's point of view seems to show that the "my way is right and your way is wrong!" attitude long pre-existed the pathologies of electronic social media, even going back to Usenet. But I'm sure Mr. Schubert was happy to test anything he could get paid for breaking writing about. And this is prior to the 1990s & beyond era of "Buycycling" where the reviewers seemed unable to say anything less than rhapsodic about almost any tested product.

Plus the 7-11 ad reminded me all those chili dogs and Slurpees I consumed during my rides in the early 80s were going to a good cause.
